What a Bind
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Luton.
- Sunday, 18th of August 2024
It was a nice morning for an outdoor task, and Lizzie and I timed it just right , as no sooner had we arrived at Mrs A's and got ready to start on her garden than the sun came out.
The grass was in a need of a bit of a cut and there were lots of weeds growing on the paths, in the gravel, and the beds were full of bind weed and other unwanted plants. Despite Mrs A having no garden tools apart from the mower, we soon got stuck into the task.
I took charge of the mower as it would be an ideal way to increase my step count for the day, and Lizzie started on clearing the pathway. We had a short stop for a coffee, made by Mrs A's son, before getting back to it. We cleared the weeds from the gravel, strimmed the back area (I happened to have a trimmer in by boot - as you do!) and pulled as much of the bind weed out of the borders as we could - unravelling it from some of the trees and bushes too. Lizzie also had a pair of secateurs hidden in her bag so was able to cut back some rather vicious looking brambles too.
The hour and a half for the task sped by and we soon had three bags stuffed full of garden waste.
Mrs A was truly delighted with the transformation to her garden and was looking forward to sitting out and enjoying the sunshine.
