Turf's up
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.
- Saturday, 29th of September 2018
It was a perfect day for a mission, the sun was shining so bright and warm for a September's day, you wouldn't be crazy to think it was still the summer.
Poor Mrs J had got the day mixed up so she was a bit bewildered to see us but invited us through to her huge garden.
Alex as requested threw all the apples from next door's apple tree into their garden, Mrs J said to throw them with more gusto but it was difficult as there was someone in the garden!
Debs started on the weeding where she carefully left the plants that would flower and tomato plants, and it looked perfect.
Alex and I bagged up some ugly stones and moved over some brighter stones where we found a portal to another world (that's another story?). Whilst we are doing this Mrs J tells us to stop, even though she had asked us to do it, as she said that poor lady (Debs) is doing all weeding by herself. She looked shocked that Debs had saved any plants and asked us to dig up ALL the plants. We were sad as there were some delightful looking plants but her wish is our command. Dig, dig, dig, chat, chat - a few hours later, a lot of full bags of plants, weeds and stones and the beds were bare and the task was complete.
I really enjoyed the afternoon with lovely conversation. Mrs J was a pleasure to help. She said how much she appreciated having a chat with us too which I explained is part of the mission. She said she would definitely sing our praises. We left with smiles on our faces knowing we had made a difference.
