10 runners went to Tang Hall Community Centre (THCC) to tackle their ivy problem. We ran 2.6km with a sneaky break for some lunging en route.
On arrival at THCC we were ushered into mission control by Stephen, the Centre Manager. Laid out in front of us was a big bag of tools and gloves...
"Your 30 minute mission, if you choose to accept it.."
Our challenge was to remove as much ivy from the site boundaries as we could (there was a lot) in the time and to cut back an overgrown area in the car park. The team went straight to work, lopping and hacking and pulling and bagging.
The overgrown saplings in the car park were fully cut back in about 20 minutes, so we carried all of the wood over to the other side where it will be used to build a second bug hotel at the centre- no waste here!
All the removed ivy was shoved into the biggest bag you've ever seen and dragged away doggedly by the team for disposal.
THCC also has a big sports court so we took the opportunity to practice a few running drills and controlled sprints before making our way back another 2.6km to the Premier Inn for a cool down stretch.
Another good deed done!
