The Passion of the Flower
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Saturday, 6th of January 2018
2 GG Yorkies, Leanne and Ellie met at Mr J's house to help him clear out his green house.
On arrival, Mr J explained that Passion Flower was growing rampant within the walls of the greenhouse (and some of it was even poking out between the cracks in the windows and roof) making it impossible for him to get in there. Our task was to cut it all back and empty any plant pots that we found inside.
Armed with shears and secateurs, we got stuck in. There wasn't enough room for both of us in the greenhouse, so we took it in turns to stoop inside and pass out the cuttings and plantpots to each other. Despite a clear warning to 'Mind Your Head', I hit my head at least twice, so let Ellie do most of the work inside!
I feel like this is the closest I'm ever going to get to being in Jumanji (Ellie)
Ellie also seemed to know what she was doing when it came to pruning - making sure to make cuttings at least a centimetre from where they branched off so that it didn't completely kill the plant.
Wanton destruction complete, we found ourselves a broom and swept out the floor. While Ellie got carried away removing some moss from the footpath outside the greenhouse, I picked up a squeegee which I found lying around and had a go at making the greenhouse door and roof a tad more see-through!
As we left Mr J was already making plans to plant some sweet cherry tomatoes in his newly created space.
