The legend of the lost loppers
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Saturday, 24th of August 2019
Following a very well attended GoodGym roadtrip to the nearby and newish ParkRun in Easingwold (and some epic roadtrip tunes!!), Team woolcoch arrived nice and early for our mission. Fortunately Mr R was home and happy to see us.. He introduced us to his feline friends before giving us a slightly ominous briefing and presenting us with some excellent (brand new) tools! We headed out into the back garden which had indeed become a bit of a bramble jungle.. At this point we realised we may have got ourselves in a bit of a prickle!! But we bravely got stuck in taking on the large and rather girthy brambles! The sun was shining and the air was soon filled with the sounds of ouches and some minor cussing and before too long we had made a fairly substantial clearing. At this point Ed decided it was time to switch his shears for loppers... Only to realise we had lost them somewhere in the piles of cuttings and tall grass... Little did we know that lost loppers would become something of a theme for this mission. After about 40 minutes we decided it was time for a lilt break, during which Mr R reappeared with some very welcome gardening gloves (better late than never!) With the proper protection now in place Ed happily declared he could now lop with confidence! We headed further down the garden and cleared the whole right hand side before deciding we had chopped down so much that we were running out of space to pile up the cuttings (which someone will be collecting next week.. Lucky them!) It was a big job but we left feeling thorny but satisfied! Another good deed well done...
