They used to say that it's grim up North. There's a lot of hills, people wear flat caps and have funny accents. Not true! Yes, there were lots of hills. Very steep ones. But not a flat cap in sight, and it's certainly not grim in north Bristol's Golden Hill (there's that hill word again) Community Garden. This lush oasis is home to the largest sunflowers known to man, and some really friendly gardeners.
12 fantastic folk braved the hills to run up to help the Community Garden advertise their harvest festival (this Saturday, if you are keen, Good Gym people may be able to wangle free cake!). A great mix of regulars, semi regulars and newbies too. A warm welcome to Jude, who joined us for her first run and a big shout out to Rachel who was not put off by the run at the weekend.
Once we'd mastered the hills, we got a quick tour of the site, tasted the mange tout (ooooh! posh!) and tomatoes, and were assigned streets to go and flyer. A breakaway team were given a pair of scissors and put up laminated signs around the area. It didn't take long to blitz the neighborhood with information, and we soon gathered up back at the garden.
Weeeee! Downhill running was lovely, but sadly we were not up-hill free as we returned back to home base as there was a sneaky one that we'd forgotten about.
This was certainly one of the tougher Good Gym runs, so massive congratulations to all of those who came. The red shirted gang of runners is getting bigger and redder every week (I'm going to have to redo my red streak in my hair soon, if this continues!), so thanks to everyone for coming!
