The Great North (Islington) Run
14 GoodGymers made their way 8.0km to help their local community in Islington.
- Monday, 23rd of February 2015
- Led by Simon Fitzmaurice
Lots of new stuff tonight: New to GoodGym: Phillipa and Sofia; new to GoodGym Islington: Isabel and Suzi (Tower Hamlets regulars)
New members: Sofia, Esther and Georgina; New haircut for Esther; New shoes for Alison (and also a bleeding leg!) New task: Caxton House Community Centre, who are great and we will be doing plenty of stuff for in the future.
In other GG Islington News there was almost a new parkrun PB for Steve (missed it by three seconds). Almost a new t-shirt for Richard (he's had it a while, we've just not seen it very much); Almost a criminal record for Laura (search for Nutella fire. She insists she had nothing to do with it)
Regulars Emma and Kate and Simon brought the numbers up to 13. After a very quick briefing/bouncing on the spot to keep warm we set off to North Islington to deliver some flyers to promote activities at Caxton House, including a Zumbathon for next Saturday.
We split into pairs, attacked a couple of streets each and got a very respectable number delivered. After a quick biscuit and chat, Richard and Steve led the early finishers to Emirates for a "letter fartlek" (the other finishers weren't really late, they were just so good they were off delivering a second batch)
There was talk of a doing a time-trial around the Emirates (640 metres diameter), but the wind was a bit heavy and it was very very cold so we thought we'd save that for next week when we can get decent times and where it will fit in perfectly with our monthly theme night (more to follow).
Simon, head slightly foggy with cold, forgot to set up a debate, so we went meta and on the jog back discussed what the worst topic to debate at GoodGym would be. Suggestions:
- Politics
- Religion
- Gender
- Football
- Immigration
- Middle East
- The merits of Geordie Shore
- The hottest GoodGym trainer (pointless debate anyway, I think we all know who it is)
That's the next two months' plans down the drain then :( On the bright side there will be no punch-ups to report on :)
Great job as usual from everybody. Will update on the Zumbathon via twitter (@ggisling). If anybody fancies getting involved as a participant or volunteer on Saturday then get in touch with Caxton House
See you next week
Simon
