Social Gardening - more than a fealing.
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Friday, 17th of March 2023
When I arrived Mrs S was pleased to see me, having the same person returning felt like the right thing to do. I got to work finishing up the bagging up of dead sticks and branches. I then started to discuss the pots she had, a number of plants had died but sometimes they can be dormant in the winter so needed to check each one with her. They pulled out of the pot with no resistance so we were confident we made the right decision. We talked while I was working and discovered we were both living in Nottingham in the late 60's and 70's. We discussed the Brian Clough era with Nottingham Forest and watching matches in the terraces before there was seating. We talked about Mrs S family and discussed other topics like mental health. Mrs S had a visitor when I was there and even though she was struggling herself she did not hesitate to offer her support to a neighbour. I said that she could just put in a request if she wanted me to come back, she made it very clear she did "now I know what's what". She had worked out how old I was from our previous conversation and left with her complimenting me on how young I looked for my age. On travelling back I felt that I had made more than a difference to her garden.
