Slipping and Scything in the Snow
10 GoodGymers made their way 1km to help the York Greenways in York.
- Sunday, 21st of January 2018
10 runners congregated at Naburn Bridge to complete a variety of tasks for Peter, an old friend of multiple GG York Missions. It was Richard and Ben's first mission with GoodGym and they soon got stuck into the tasks with the rest of the gang.
Ellie and Barbara were painting Howden bridge black while Egg, Paul, Ben and Becky (she of a bijillion January kilometres) were painting Naburn Bridge grey. Meanwhile Tim, Nicky, Rich and Nick got to work scything and raking up weeds so that the wildflowers will have plenty of light in the spring. The cutting crew got covered in very prickly burrs from the weeds and Tim sat on a bramble but otherwise we avoided injuries from scythes, sickles and rakes - miracle!
The Tyvek suits seem to be a GoodGym favourite look but also helped keep us warm as the snow started to fall.
The highlight of the mission was the arrival of a random tourist pulling three suitcases along the cycle path, so Rich pulled her luggage all the way to Bishopthorpe
Is there no end to the public spiritedness of GoodGym York? We really need to get some superhero suits - I wonder if Tyvek have a superhero range?
