Showing our good slide
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Saturday, 28th of October 2017
Three GG Bristolians fancied having a go at the ArcelorMittal Orbit slide in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park. Clearly a trip to London wouldn't be complete without a GG mission so we all signed up for a Saturday afternoon slot in Hackney.
The mission began gently enough with a little light weeding in the front garden, but as we progressed to the back, we discovered one or two brambles which looked like they might keep us busy for a while.
Clo got to work with a pair of shears and the two left hand rigger gloves I had brought along. Richard and I tried to force the cut brambles into bags and pull out any bindweed and less brambly imposters that we found. We salvaged the tomato plant though, Richard even made it a little splint (technical gardening term).
All the while we sang our Hackney mission song and discussed the nuances of the Sooty and Sweep time capsule episode.
Our bramble clear finished, we prepared for home - only to realise that we had forgotten to saw the tree down, which we quickly rectified.
Job done. We grabbed some food and caught the Megabus home again.
(The slide was great fun - especially shouting out SLIDERRR! in our best Bristolian so the waiting camera person could catch our arrival)
