Shelf and safety: totally nailed it!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.

Rosie and Peter met on a damp and miserable Wednesday lunchtime to do a bit of DIY for Mrs S. Due to a long-term health condition, Mrs S is unable to move unaided and spends most of her time in one room of her home. The room contained an old cupboard which was no longer in use and was blocking a lot of the light from the room. For Peter and Rosie, the task was get rid of the old cupboard to create more space for Mrs S in the room and make it generally lighter and more pleasant in there. The cupboard clearly wasn't coming down without a fight though - whoever put it up had done a cracking job of fixing it in place with wood glue, screws, and a forest of nails and tacks!
Peter very quickly established himself as the brains (and most of the brawn!) behind the operation, swiftly assessing the situation and identifying the tools needed for the job - brute force was a key player in this one! Under Peter's expert direction and demonstration, Rosie enthusiastically pulled at walls, unscrewed supports and prised away hefty layers of wood glue (keeping a careful eye out for the hidden nails sticking out in unexpected places). In a little under an hour Peter and Rosie were smiling and covered in dust and the job was done! Mrs S's husband was very grateful - it wasn't a job he could have done himself and he was glad to see the cupboard gone. Mission accomplished!
