Sadness behind a smile..
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Bournemouth.
- Saturday, 11th of April 2020
Sorry guys, trying to write a positive post but am feeling pretty low after my second mission of the day...
I had spoken to Mrs J on the phone a couple of times. Firstly to get her shopping list and then to let her know I was on my way a little earlier when expected. As with all of these tasks, the shopping list was basic and not at all complicated. We really are fulfilling people's most basic needs.
When I arrived I asked Mrs J how she was and unfortunately she was not doing too well at all mentally and physically. The training we go through as a volunteer for GoodGym meant I knew exactly what to do, and am hopeful that she will get the care that she needs very soon.
I was so sad to leave Mrs J. She told me that she has no friends or family which absolutely broke my heart. I wanted to wrap my arms around her. I wonder how it can be that somebody has nobody? The work GoodGym and other organisations are doing is vital, but there is so much more to be done.
If you were ever thinking of volunteering, now is the time. There are so many people who need us more than ever. Not just during the times we face now, but always. You can help by picking up the phone or writing a letter to someone you know might be alone. Offer to help that elderly neighbour on your street who doesn't usually have many visitors. Anything you can do will make a difference to someone's life, no matter how small.
Stay safe everyone x
