8 GoodGymers made their way 5km to help their local community in Tower Hamlets.

Last night, 9 runners met at York Hall ready to complete a group mission; a community growing club needed a hand so the Good Gym came running to help.We headed North for just over two miles, crossing the canal, past the Hackney Empire and up Amhurst Road, chatting together as we ran. We were still a close group as we arrived at the Somerford and Shacklewell estate and met Alex (who runs the Edible Estate project). We grabbed forks, wheelbarrows, sacks and spades and jogged on up to the huge pile of compost. We had to bag up enough of the compost to last the residents a while and take it round to the new allotment. It was hard work but the team acted fast, digging compost into sacks, piling sacks into the barrow, and wheeling very full loads down to the new veg patch. We tidied back the very steamy remaining pile, scraping spades and a broom across the pavement, and covered it over with tarps and heavy paving slabs. Then ran back into the night just 19 mins after arriving. If you know your traps from your lats, let us know which muscles we were working out most on our facebook page. And get in touch if you know anyone who might have a mission for our run on March 14th.
