Promductive Afternoon
2 GoodGymers made their way to help the Naomi House in Portsmouth.
- Saturday, 22nd of August 2020
- Led by Maxine VSG
Katie & myself met up at Naomi House just as manager Tom was settling in for his lunch break - Katie had been here since lockdown and knew what we had to do, so we got to it.
As my first post lockdown visit it felt eerily quiet to begin with (just 2 of us and Tom in the office, rather than a hoard of Wednesday GoodGymers with clothes and bags all over the place!) but was quickly in the swing of things with the familiar tasks, the radio playing in the background and of course the usual good chatter and laughs!
We tackled numerous ladies summer bags, hanging and sizing them as appropriate - interesting finds were some prom (or perhaps bridesmaid??) dresses, actually... a lot of fancy dresses, and a lot of fancy dresses with their original tags still on! Katie found a supposed "perfect T-shirt" which made us question how perfect could it be if it was brought to a charity shop, perhaps the old owner wanted to share the perfect Tee around! There were also the usual questionable (in our opinions) outfits, i.e. "is it a dress or a top?"
A shopper popped her head in mid way and asked if they were looking for more volunteers - we said of course but directed her to Tom - hopefully Naomi house will get another regular volunteer to help out as there's always so much to do! Once our two hours we were up, the racks we had been filling were bursting and it was almost impossible to add more clothes to them, so it was good timing to wrap up then.
Other shout outs: Katie did NOT purchase anything this time which she was pleased about, and I got to sport my new 100 deeds top! :)
