Power tools with Peter!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help the York Greenways in York.
- Wednesday, 17th of January 2018
2 GG Yorkies ran to help Peter build bat boxes. After marvelling at the example bat box (made by GG Leanne and Nicola), and it’s capacity to house over 100 bats in such a tiny space, it was time to crack on.
First we sawed (and then powersawed with the jigsaw - thankfully with Peter’s close supervision) the wood into the required lengths. The jigsaw was fun, but scary, so Ellie stuck to the handsaw whilst Barbara moved on to our next power tool - the drill!
Peter taught us to properly line up and mark where to drill first, and then we were let loose to drill through two layers of wood. He sensibly gave us another piece of wood to drill over so we didn’t drill into his decking - which, quite frankly, would have been highly likely! Power tool number 3 was used to help countersink the screws before number 4 (the power-screwdriver) helped put the whole bat box together. The finishing touch to our somewhat rustic bat box was the GG logo.
All limbs and fingers (surprisingly) intact, it was time to a quick photo with the finished product before we all headed home to warm up.
