4 GoodGymers supported Protect Earth at Warwickshire Lavender Farm in Bubbenhall, planting young saplings to create a new habitat for wildlife and helping to mitigate the climate crisis.
After a quick lesson on how to plant trees effectively (using the "V" and "T" technique of digging a hole) and being given pointers about how to avoid the roots being damaged by frost, we set to work on planting some small leaf lime trees, hammering in stakes with a mallet and then fitting the tree protectors over the top before the finishing touch of the tree label.
Next we whizzed around adding tree protectors to trees that had been planted by other volunteers as we were hogging the staple guns! Then we planted 15 wild cherry trees, before finishing off with 10 Oak trees, by which time we had the technique down to a fine art.
We didn't quite manage to plant an entire 100 acre wood(!), but it was Allan's 100th Good Deed with GoodGym - he's got wings! Well done Allan!
