I joined in the monthly community session run by Thames 21 and the Old Chiswick Protection Society on the banks of the river Thames.
Today’s session was led by Vic from Thames 21 and Eliott and other regular volunteers, including Rachel who we’ve met a few times volunteering at Furnival Gardens. We carried willow branches over in piles to be added to the protective layers being woven around the Eyot’s edge.
We then moved onto balsam bashing in the middle of the Eyot, once cleared more trees and reeds will be planted to form a long lasting structure in the centre of the Eyot. While we were there Vic and Eliott took us on a tour of the banks of the Eyot, as the tide was unusually low, to show us the progress being made with the help of the community each month.
