11 Hackney GoodGymers ran 5k to Hollybush Community Garden to pull out 8 large raised beds full of the dominant and poisonous Euphorbia Lathyris.
Is it already Autumn??? A strange weather day on Hackney with a whole heap of rain thrown in!
First we all hailed our GG Olympic Team Captain, Toyin!! for her unbelievable organisational work putting together our squad for Saturday’s big event!!
With all last minute info given out we dodged the puddles and cyclists on our way South to Hollybush community Garden. Reaching the always amazing Margaret who had Billy (her mobile gardening tool Trolly) fully loaded ready for action!!
The task this evening was to clear 8 huge raised beds for a very invasive and poisonous plant that had sprung up and taken over the beds! The offender was the strongly named Euphorbia Lathyris!!
We got pulling! Yanking the plant clean out the soil and clearing the beds at a remarkable pace! Although filling the bin bags with the plant was not so easy as it was tough and dense.
20 bags filled and 8 beds cleared we ran the bags to various bins across the Estate then dig over the beds so they are ready for planting!!
A hop skint and a jog back to base rounded off a top evening!
See you Saturday for our Olympic action!!
