Based in Anfield, James Coates heads up Alley Angels, an organisation determined to rid the city streets of litter, and clear fly tipping hotspots for good.
I answered the call to help Mat, who can be seen regularly out and about with his litter picker, at one of the worst affected areas...I have seen some littering, but this place was worst than most.
We set to, and after a hour of brushing, shovelling, picking and bagging, we had filled Mat's car with bags of rubbish, and left at least one little corner of the city looking much cleaner.
Our two, four legged supervisors had been periodically checking on our progress, and seemed pleased with the result, but spent most of their time guarding the bags of rubbish, and Mat's car πΎπΎ
Several residents passed by as we worked, and thanked us for our efforts. It must be quite depressing to have to live amongst the discarded waste of others.
Job done for the day, we finished with a hot cuppa and a delicious slice of cake, kindly provided by Mat, and made by his own fair hands π
Hopefully, with a dedicated team of helpers, we can get on top of the problem, and put some pride back in Merseyside.
