New Year in Newham

T'was a chilly Jan eve, as it should be, been a bit warm of late, it's good to have some distinction between the months, and feel the seasons. After a few weeks of not seeing each other, was great to congregate again outside our favourite bar in Stratford. RWQ was "NY resolutions focus on what you need to improve, perhaps reinforcing critical ideas, so tell me something you're happy about that you did last year?" Kicked off without hesitation by Sharon and new Waitrose Magazine cover model, "not getting covid". Nice. She's been dodging it like a pro, bobbing, slipping, ducking and weaving when needed. Dan got to see his Grandparents, you can't argue with that. In fact, I should have said that too, however, my answer was "not getting my pelvis sawn in half" - by an eager surgeon. Kev went for his metric marathon, Rosa went for her full marathon, and Hils went for her ultra marathon. No friendly oneupmanship at all then. '21 silver linings, they were plenty!

Halfway towards Cody Dock we whacked out 22 press ups, king of upper body exercises, then 22 lunges with an insidious three second hold at the bottom. Everyone managed with minimal groans, so I perceive that as a roaring success, bringing in 2022, with numerically relevant rep counts, what more could you want?

Once we reached Cody Dock, the unique energy that is Basia showed us our job for the eve, undecorating the Christmas bits. We had just begun when Ivo Ivo, so good they named him twice, came along, another vertically-blessed homo sapien to assist with hard to reach areas. Fab to have him along . After forty minutes we had re-organised the hall, removed all the decorations - inside and out - and torn down a children's 'save the oceans' exhibition. All in the name of good, even if he doesn't like it.

We returned back to base with a few more 22 based exercises, reverse lunges with a two second hold, we also nearly slow-maimed a member of the public, careering into them at 1mph backwards, but alas they stepped around us. Then a mile or so later, we performed some box jumps, in order to develop some explosive leg power.

All in all a good evening with the gang, nice to sneak in some strength work and get stuck into 2022.
