Mowing, strimming, vacuuming and creosote!
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Saturday, 21st of April 2018
Myself, Ellie B and Ben met at Mr Js and realised that Ellie and I had been there before. I got to work with the mower whilst Ellie began weeding and pruning and Ben started creosoting the fence panels. The lovely Mr J brought out the strimmer we'd used on our previous visit and treated us to a new garden "toy" in the form of a leaf blower/sucker. After I'd tried out all the equipment and (very noisily) 'vacuumed' up as many leaves as possible the garden was looking much neater and tidier.
Ellie removed a very thorny plant (which I'm still convinced was a rose bush!) with Mr Js permission but gained a few scratches in the process. Mr J kindly brought us out some fruit cocktail flavoured drink which was very welcome in the lovely sunny weather. Ellie moved on to helping Ben with the creosote and as we only had 2 brushes I had a little chat with Mr J and swept some leaves out of the garage. Very quickly Ellie was covered with creosote freckles up her arms and face and Ben had managed to paint his hands as well as the fence.
Time was running out after 2 hours with 1½ panels left to do and a full green bin. We decided we will have to go back to finish off and paint the shed as well next time!
