Moss say, we’re really fungis!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Croydon.
- Saturday, 26th of November 2016
On Saturday, Ruth and I came along to Croydon to help Mrs L do a few bits in the garden, and to help her get ready for the festive season.
After arriving, we introduced ourselves to Mrs L, and went over the list of things she needed help with. We decided to tackle the garden first; there were lots of leaves and loose moss that needed to be raked up and collected, and a few pots that needed clearing out. While doing this, we discussed the fulfilment one gets from helping restore a garden, and enjoyed coming across some mushrooms (because we’re such fungis!). Between the two of us, we filled two considerable bags with all of this, so we popped these in the shed and headed back into the house.
Inside, we did a few household tasks (during which I had a crash course in What Is A Valance?) and moved some boxes around, while having a nice chat with Mrs L about early Christmas dinners, travelling around Croydon, and the work that Goodgym does. With everything else done, our last undertaking was a rather therapeutic one, setting up some nifty colour changing LED candles for Mrs L (which would be quite at home in the sensory room Croydon’s Goodgym group encountered – and enjoyed – on Tuesday!). After this, we bade Mrs L adieu and headed off our separate ways.
