Mind the Gap
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Wednesday, 26th of August 2020
Myself and Ellie (mother and daughter) signed up to this mission as it was only a short walk away from home. Ms M was waiting for us and showed us the dining table and chairs that needed to be moved into the garage, to make way for her husband's hospital bed. The 4 chairs were no problem, however the table was somewhat larger! We managed to get the table into the kitchen but couldn't get it around the narrow corner and through into the garage. We thought we would solve the problem by taking it through the house instead and into the garage from the outside, however the garage door was locked and Ms M couldn't find the keys. Once the keys had been located we tried in vain to unlock the garage door. The key seemed to fit but wouldn't turn (possibly because the garage door hadn't been used in a very long time) and it couldn't be opened from the inside. Plan B was to put the dining table into the lounge where there was space and this was easy enough, we just had to move an armchair out of the way temporarily to get the table near the lounge window. We moved a couple of smaller chairs into the garage for Ms M so that they were out of her way and she was very pleased with our hard work. Ellie was very pleased to give her new 50 t-shirt its first outing!
