Let the sunshine in
5 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Tower Hamlets.
- Saturday, 23rd of July 2016
We were warned, but nothing prepared us for the sight of Ms V's garden, the garden that we were tasked with clearing on this hot summer Saturday. It had been a long time since the garden saw sunlight, the brambles had taken over and were so overgrown that no one could tell us what was in it.
Taking up the challenge, however, were a crack team of 4 goodgymmers with a running total (see what I did there..) of almost 500 good deeds (459 to be exact). Dave from Harca (who had referred this mission to us) brought with him a large assortment of tools including two electric hedge trimmers, a saw, shears and a few large white bags. Dave was also volunteering in his spare time and along with Graham used the hedge trimmers to great effect, although it seemed like it was more fun than work sometimes as they used their 'lightsabers' to cut down the thorny weeds. Sarah, Frances and I cut down the brambles the old fashioned way and in less than 2 hours, we managed to fill 4 large white bags and the garden had been completely transformed.
