(L)easy like Sunday morning
6 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community in Hackney.
- Sunday, 1st of September 2019
- Led by Peter Van Tongeren
GoodGymers joined Plastic Free Hackney’s urban rewilding project along the River Lea. This involved cutting back brambles and clearing weeds from a stretch of wall alongside the tow path. We chopped, bagged and swept for a solid couple of hours and were suitably rewarded with homemade drinks and cakes. With the area cleared, next month the group intends to build raised beds for plants that will attract bees and other pollinators. The next session is Sunday 29th September.

With initial communications indicating that the team would be on-site for a while, a second squad of Goodgymmers was aiming to join in from about midday, providing a fresh set of energetic people. However the first squad did so much work, that the organisers were starting to pack up after lunch! Besides helping to clear up, there wasn't much left to do but to continue clearing an overgrown path across the water - we couldn't really come down and not do anything! An hour of chopping back undergrowth was followed by a visit to the Princess of Wales to round off the day.
