We received a report that a young tree along the River Ouse had been engulfed by bindweed - so we went along to remove it all, give the tree some light and hopefully prevent a grim and early death.

John was first on the scene and reckoned we might be too late, but I was optimistic. Then Babs turned up and we picked up the pace with John and Babs taking the top and me clearing the bottom and risking reaching through the tree guard gaps with my tiny hands.

It took about 20 minutes to clear all the bindweed and the long, dead grassy bits around the base of the tree. We hope we've saved it!
