17 Hackney GoodGymers ran 4k to Hollybush Community garden or at least attempted to!!
little shout out on behalf of Chi for the Hackney X Tower Hamlets cocktail evening!! Starts at 8.45 after tower hamlets goodgym this coming Monday. It's at Keddlestone Walk Community Center near Cambridge Heath Station. Session last 30 mins to an hour. Free pizza slices. 15 different types of alcohol to sample.
With the clocks changed darkness has set in for the winter but that hasn't darkened the spirits of Team Hackney as we set off to deepest South Hackney to pay a visit to the Hollybush Estate. Kudos to those who made the effort with their Halloween get-up.
We were greeted on arrival by the ever cheerful Margaret and Basil the Kerry Beagle, who was sadly stressing out due to the fireworks, but a therapy session with Mireille the dog whisperer soon had him in a zen like state. Our first task was to shift a multitude of plant pots to a tidier spot to keep the garden in top order. Having made light work of this we moved onto sorting through large bags which had become mixed with compost and rubbish. We picked out all sorts of interesting finds and separated the junk so that the clean soil could be deposited on the compost heap that will break down and feed the rest of the garden. Team broomstick followed behind to sweep the paths into shape.
Meanwhile Dharmesh and Patrick had a private view of the pumpkin patch (not a euphemism) before being tasked with shifting more compost onto the flower beds.
A solid evening's work behind us we headed back to base to move onto the celebrations at Tad. Thanks to star bakers Mireille, Emily, Andrea and next year's GBBO hopeful Toyin for their (trick or) treats and to Hackney veg sculpture Olympic champ Andrea again for her spooky skeleton sculpture!
Thanks to the magnificent Hackney squad for a memorable birthday evening. See you guys next week!
Thanks
Clair
