I dove the smell of freshly strimmed grass
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Islington.
- Sunday, 6th of September 2015
After a productive morning in Hackney, Patrick and I headed south to tend to a lawn in Gipsy Hill. Having unsuccessfully tried to mow it a couple of times before I knew the grass would be long but we were both a little surprised at quite how long it was.
With a strimmer at our disposal though we thought we'd have it done in no time. Before we could get going we had the small issue of how to replace the wire in the strimmer. Neither of us having ever done that before we started to panic that our mission might be over before it had even begun but after one watch of a YouTube video entitled 'How to replace the Flymo strimmer line in a Flymo trimmer' Patrick got it done. He didn't even have to watch the whole thing, I'm going to have to watch the last 30 seconds in my own time if I want to know how it ends.
While Patrick got started on the grass, I kept myself busy by untangling all the spare 'tangle-free' wire and wondering why there was a flock of birds circling us. When they all settled on the roof nextdoor it became clear that they were the neighbour's doves and we kept them entertained for an hour and a half while we took it in turns strimming and raking.
Once we were finished we left with an even bigger sense of achievement that normal; not only had we left the lawn looking much better than it did when we arrived but Patrick had also learnt a new skill - if you ever need the wire replacing in your strimmer he's your man.
