Hijinks and Tom-fruity-tree out on the marshes
10 GoodGymers made their way to help the Tree musketeers in Hackney.

It’s the last Saturday of the month, so where else would you find Hackney Goodgym but at regular haunt the Tree Musketeers Nursery? First up a shout out to Hackney speedster Amanda for her new PB at HM parkrun this morning coming home 4th lady. Next stop sub 20 mins?
This morning we branched out from the confines of the nursery to plant 19 apple trees to create a brand new orchard on South Marsh. After some predatory work in an attempt to drain the perma-puddle, we set to work on the actual tree planting. Apparently a square hole gives the tree the best start in life as it allows the roots to spread more easily. It took a while to dig the foot or so needed for our tree “Tom” to fit snuggly (how do murderers do it?). Once we got him safely into his new home and the soil replaced, we gave him a couple of stakes for company. Using the stake post driver (?) required a hard hat safety measure - no idea why this rule has been introduced (!) We set Tom up with a safety guard and a couple of barrows of mulch to keep him warm in these icy conditions. Let’s hope he’s hard-core enough to survive out on the marshes. Don’t forget to visit him next time you’re passing! With a warm feeling of satisfaction it was back to the nursery for our #healthyswaps snacks. Thanks Liz for the pun and the snacks - and Happy Birthday! 🎉🎁
ps - join us for more tree planting fun on 14 December at Well Street Common
