Gravitree's Pull
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hounslow.
- Sunday, 28th of July 2024
Mr G's garden was laden with summer's bounty when Kash and Sevan arrived. In fact it was overladen as the ground was littered with bad bramley apples that had fallen not far from the tree which towered over Mr G's back garden.
Kash and Sevan were first asked to help with some planting. When they told Mrs G that they were better destroyers of plant life than creators, Mrs G instead asked them to collect the apples from the tree branches that were within reach and to cut the low branches to make the tree easier to walk under.
Gravity is often helpful. It stops us floating off into space for example. With this task, it was less so as every time Sevan grabbed hold of 2 apples and picked them, 1 or 2 more would fall from further up the same branch. Kash and Sevan tried to dodge them as Newton had already discovered gravity, so there was nothing to be gained from an apple induced bump on the head 🤕
With the low hanging fruit removed from the tree, Kash used the loppers to cut down tree branches and, with Mr G's help, packed them into bags. The harvested fruit ended up being so heavy that it burst one carrier bag, so needed to be spread amongst more. Mrs G admitted that she had to give most of the windfall away and told the GoodGymers a story of a home made apple pie she'd made for her grandchildren last year, who in turn told her they preferred the M&S version 😢
With the main task finished, Kash and Sevan moved on to weeding Mr G's plant pots. Something that they'd done on their last visit too. The weeds had returned, so Mrs G wanted to remove them before some new planting. As the end of the task neared, Sevan cut some mint for the couple while Kash astonishingly turned down the offer of a banana as Mrs G remembered that Kash likes them (she actually loves them!)
