Getting Shopping for Mrs C
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Friday, 27th of March 2020
Mrs C asked for some help with her shopping as she is self isolating.
When I arrived I rang her from the end of her path and she explained she had left an envelope with a list and some cash just inside the front door.
I retrieved said envelope which had my name written on it and waved to her as I passed her front window (I was then greeted by her little dog who barked at me - also through the window).
I then cycled to the nearby co-op to try and fulfil her shopping list - success in every area except broccoli and eggs which were completely gone. (and theres no viable substitution for these except chocolate mini eggs right? Sadly they were out of those too!)
I then returned with the goods and change which I left just inside the front door, (I also remembered a pen and wrote on the back of the envelope what I couldn't get and what I'd had to substitute - large bread rolls for loaves of bread) waved at Mrs C again through the window and went on my way.
Although it only took a small part of my day it was wonderful to feel as though I made some difference to someones life and was able to be of use. Never has volunteering been more important or vital than now and its amazing and a privilege to be one.
