Digging for Victory!
4 GoodGymers made their way 6.0km to help their local community in Brent.
- Monday, 19th of September 2016
The Hardcore four from Brent ran 4 miles to Harlesden Community Gardens to wield some tools and shift some earth to make space for a fun planting space for toddlers!
The grey, drizzly evening wasn't very inviting, but the lure of the hilly run towards Harlesden Community Garden and an array of manual tools was enough to tempt four dedicated runners out into the damp September air. Gabriel met us and filled us in on what needed to be done, a new initiative to get mums and kids into the community gardening space - we just needed to make space in the ground to accommodate a pit for them.
He told us to take our pick of the tools (or fork, or spade...), mark our territory and dig like we mean business! Illuminated by bike lights, lanterns and mobile phone torches,
The sparks really flew (literally!) as Andrea encountered concrete and bricks with the pick.
We fought against the unyielding soil for a good half hour, and managed to extract a wheelbarrow full of earth. Not content with toiling over our implements, we still mustered enough energy to do a quick burst of one minute circuits, with
*Tricep dips *Star jumps *and Jump squats
Before heading back off to base, over the hill and far away (well... about 2 miles, but it felt pretty far after all that effort!). Well done everyone! See you next week!
