24 runners smashed a 1k time trial, cleared up the canal in Camden, and tidied a garden for a women's theatre rehab centre.
This week I have attempted to summarise our run in 6 words.
BRAINFREEZE
...which is what I had when I took one group on an extra long canal run to a depot in Camden (in my defense....nope I have none). We were there to collect some litter picks so we could do a canal litter picking run. There is a big #capitalcleanup campaign going on at the moment and we thought we would get involved by doing a canal side clear up.
CLAWS This was our weapon of choice for swipping nasty rubbish out of the Regent's Canal. They were particularly good for reaching floating coca cola bottles from the water. All in all we collected a good and varied yield- 7 full sacks of detritus, from cardboard and fag butts to rotting veg and passport photos of Napoleon*. Classic.
HECKLES
We received a variety- some Italian, some Northern, some from inebriated Camden folk. Most of them were nice...and I'll leave you to guess which group gave the least positive one. In a sense shouting 'Jump in' is in itself not that negative but most of the other shouts were encouraging!
SERENADED
Is what the guys who went to help out at theatre group Clean Break. They aim to transform the lives of women who have been through the criminal justice system through theatre. They provide theatre-based courses, qualifications, training opportunities and specialist support- helping rehabilitate women offenders in prisons and the community. We were there to help tidy their outdoor space- weeding and tidying the patio area outside the centre. This exercise was made especially nice by the presence of a choir who sang while we worked! Right on.
COWABUNGA
The only word that can describe the raft of great performances on the 1k time trial around Granary Square. In the words of Simon Cowell 'you nailed it. You took it and made it your own' etc! We also crowned a new '1k Granary Square GoodGym Wednesday with shorts on' Record Holder! Ben Webb you legend. We had some other cracking performances from
And all this after a good 4k run because of my silly brainfreeze earlier. Camden I salute you!
