Bulbs and Bicycles
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.

Here's what Mrs M of YO24 had to say about the mission:
The person who referred this task got in touch: "Many thanks. Fun report!"
Ed and I headed over to meet the lovely Mrs S and her husband - who had the best doorbell we had ever encountered (an actual bell with a little lever and everything). Mrs S had recently had a stroke and the two of them needed a hand with a couple of small jobs.
Task 1 was to change a light bulb. Simple, right? Well.. not so in this Victorian house. The ceilings were so high that I was extremely thankful to have Ed as my mission buddy. Had I stood atop the step ladder and done my best jumping, I would not have reached the ceiling.
Ed who - by his own admission - is not a fan of heights, was very brave and managed to get the old spotlight bulb out and the new one in as I held the ladder for him.
Task 2 was to get Mrs S's bicycle out of the tool-shed and into the basement, as she wasn't using it at the moment and it was taking up too much space. It was a heavy, steel bike with two enormous panniers which couldn't be removed as the clasps had rusted shut.
This was the anti-tall-person part of the mission as the ceiling down to the basement was very low and I maneuvered the bike, panniers and all, around a cabinet and carefully down the steep steps. All those years of getting bikes in and out of small, awkward sheds finally put to good use.

Fabulous mission both of you! Glad to hear the tall and low ceilings didn't dampen your enthusiasm. Great job.
I love the opportunities Goodgym gives its volunteers, to visit those isolated to make a difference whilst exploring places one otherwise wouldn't visit; a grown up version of Guides/Scouts on an adventure:-) Feel good report! Love Goodgym:-)
