Branching Out
20 GoodGymers made their way 3km to help their local community in Tower Hamlets.
- Monday, 30th of September 2013
- Led by Laura Williams
20 people ran 3k, cleared 8 ton sacks of waste from some gardens, and ran 5 x 70s efforts with 50s intervals.
There were lots of new faces when we met at the Arch Gallery last night at 6:45. After we tried some new warm up techniques including backward flick kicks, we then headed out in to the night. Our good deed this week was tackling Amazonian gardens in the heart of Bethnal Green.
“Ploughing our way through”
A friendly local lady led us in to the spot lit garden. On the way we were handed bolt cutters, hedge clippers and a much needed hack saw. We started and finished much in the same way, simple ploughing our way through the overgrown gardens. Along the way we found multiple footballs, making us question the football skills of the average Londoner!
“All out sprint”
After we left the newly formed gardens we headed to a local park where Mark taught us basic running methods in a very easy to understand sequence. By using interval training, we were able to focus on each aspect of running correctly, before putting them altogether in an all out sprint. This really helped to improve running stride and general running technique.
