Blinded by the White
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Sunday, 19th of November 2017
Maddy and Leanne volunteered for a mission helping Mrs L with painting the front of her bungalow white.
Having reached her house (Leanne having done some hill reps on Windmill Rise; Maddy having changed gear twice) we all had a nice chat while Leanne managed to bosh out an extra good deed, as the chain had snapped off Mrs L's roller blind so she could no longer pull the blind up to see out into the back garden. Leanne remarkably managed to repair it with some handiwork.
After being fully kitted out with tools, Maddy removed a few cobwebs from the wall we were going to paint, then both of us set to work with the painting. Apart from rescuing a spider from the paint pot and ensuring we hadn’t painted the edges of the window sills, it all went very smoothly, and the wall looked very bright and white by the end of it.
After we had offered to clean up the brushes and had returned everything, we met another 4 generations of Mrs L's family (mother-in-law, daughter, granddaughter and great grand daugther - plus their dog). We were invited to join them for tea and homemade scones. As we both had other commitments, we politely declined, explaining that tea and cake would make the run home rather more uncomfortable!
