Last night, 13 runners met at a new GoodGym start point, the Arch gallery on Cambridge Heath Road. Rebecca and Paul were in charge of the team, and chose to take a gentle jog to London fields where Rebecca led a series of dynamic warm up exercises. The group then continued through the streets to The Beckers, an estate with an 8 plot, previously underloved, allotment. When we arrived, Gemma, who runs the allotment, explained which part would be best to tackle and where to put the compostable waste. The team grabbed tools and started the various tasks. One group cleared the path to make access easier (left) and one group battled some thick overgrowth back to the earth (middle) - except for the gooseberry bush that Patrick found (right). The group worked for 45 minutes, clearing waste as they went and digging over the land they had cleared. Gemma had kindly provided energy drinks and snack bars to give an energy boost before the return leg.The runners took 5 minutes to refuel and then set off. The team said goodbye to a few runners en route, and headed back south to London Fields to run over the softer ground before rejoining Mare Street and completing their 8k plus 45 minutes of work out.
