Back to Basics - 2. Arms
4 GoodGymers made their way 8.3km on a training session in Camden.
- Tuesday, 5th of July 2016
Three marvelous runners came out to Camden to learn some good running habits.
Backward drive
This week's focus was on our arms:
- keeping them at a right angles (imagine carrying a walnut in the crook of your arm)
- driving them backwards
- and not crossing your body with your arms
Muscle memory
After a warm-up outside the bingo hall, we ran up to Primrose hill via the canal. We found a spot free from sun-seekers and started some drills designed to build muscle memory of good running form.
One thing at a time
Next up, we practiced our arm techniques with a couple of running exercises, focusing on one element at a time.
We finished the session of with some cross-training exercises - these strengthen your core muscles, which help keep your body aligned as you run.
The Right Angles
After attempting to take some group shots showcasing the techniques we'd learnt, we decided they looked more like a band's album cover. Introducing:
The Right Angles
Vocals by Mark, Kazoo by Sarah, pot and wooden spoon by Polly and beatboxing by Neil.
Next session: Tuesday 19th July.
Looking forward to it, PSB
