All hands on deck...ing
4 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in York.
- Saturday, 18th of May 2019
4 GG Yorkies ran to help Mrs J. She is partially sighted and had old decking which needed removing as it was rotten and unsafe. Our task was to remove all the rotten timber and move it so the area was safe to walk on.
Whilst three of us arrived in our GoodGym clothes, Ed was very casually dressed as he had just been to cricket. However we were still thankful he was here as there was a lot of timber to remove and we needed the manpower as well as a cunning and strategic plan…
“We just need to wobble it!”
Or we could just mindlessly break the wood and hit it with hammers repeatedly!
We were making quick progress with most of the wood and the area looked to be cleared in no time. However some of the larger boards were quite hard to break. We all* decided the best approach was to put the boards at an angle against a table and repeatedly jump up and down. We did our dynamic risk assessments and decided there was absolutely no way this could go wrong!
After all the chaos and carnage, we got the decking removed, the pile tidied and smoothed the ground so it was safe to walk over. All within one hour!
*”We all” being Ed and I…Leanne thought it was a dumb idea
