Act(i)on Stations!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community in Ealing.
- Thursday, 6th of October 2016
A local housing estate in Acton which provides housing for vulnerable older people were holding a party to celebrate International Older Person Day and needed some help setting up. The midweek-midday mission time was not a problem and the call to Act(i)on was taken up by two of GoodGym's best (but currently between jobs) freelancers.
Ela met us at 11am and gave us a quick intro about the day's activities, which included food and drinks, a band and even a talk on Mayan civilisation by a resident. The food and drinks had been bought and our job was to set it all up, this included washing cups and glasses and setting up the tables for the buffet style meal. Dave showed a particular penchant for attractively arranging the crockery and cutlery.
Before long, the bbq food arrived, the band started playing and the party got off to a fine start, we even got a nice mention in Ela's welcome speech. After making sure we hadn't forgotten to put anything out (we hadn't) and saying hello to a few of the guests, we headed home, feeling good that we had done something useful on our day off.
