Tonight was the return of our group run/walk sessions, just what we’ve bin waiting for now for 16 months. So many life changing events have happened in that relatively short period but one thing is for sure and that’s that we haven’t lost the GoodGym spirit.
A few operational changes have meant we can now meet up on any day at any time at anyplace! So for our first returning session we decided to meet up approx 2km away from the task location and take a nice walk up to the Hospital. With my back still feeling a bit tender, the rest of the team showed true camaraderie and we all decided to walk to the task.
Litter by litter
One of the first places we had to stop visiting over a year ago was Wexham Park Hospital as it had become a Covid Emergency Centre and for obvious reasons visitors had to be restricted. So it was great to get an email from Mike, the Voluntary Sector Manager asking for us to return to help them.
Our last visit was a few weeks ago and although the levels of litter had reduced, we noticed that the car park needed a good sweep!
Va Va Broom
So we asked Mike to provide us with some dustpans and brushes so we could make the car park gleam!
The intense sun was making was sweapy but we are not a team to stop till the litter end! Armed with a tool and bag each we set off into the main car park to see what treasures we could find.
Pam was in the bushes
Kam was on ticket duty
Joseph had the boozy section
Mabu was brushing up on his knowledge
Jen had piles! Not litter-alley!
And I found a whole wardrobe and Hey Duggie
It's amazing what you can find on a little litter pick task.
Forty-five minutes in and we were done. Five bags of rubbish collected, items safely stored back in Mike's office, hands sanitised, gorup photo done and we were off! Mabu cycling back and the rest of us on our leisurely walk back to our start point.
It was a hot hot night so well done to everyone who came out this evening.
Here's what we've got coming up....including our birthday task next Monday!
