A general ere of unrest
12 GoodGymers made their way 8.0km to help their local community in Westminster.
- Wednesday, 8th of July 2015
Sirens, shouting, speeding cars, tube strikes and a very warm highly strung capital BUT still we persist as surprisingly 12 outstanding individuals joined us despite not actually knowing how they were going to get home as we headed through the eye of the storm to The Chelsea College of Arts to help make stalls out of wood in preparation for an event called #TransActing:A Market of Values on Saturday 11th July from 12-5.
The bustling pop up market will feature 50+ stalls that creatively explore existing systems of evaluation and actively produce new ones. Checkout Critical Practice
Our job with the 30mins we had was to measure, cut, screw and join as many pieces of wood as we could.
After fighting our way through the tube strike induced human traffic it was nice to follow the river along to the Tate where we met our host Neil and his team who briefed us on the event and how wonderful it was going to be.
We split up into 3 teams and we were off, one make legs, one making top part and the other group joining the two.
I have genuinely never seen so many people have so much fun with power tools lol.
A few tables later we headed back through a less chaotic capital and arrived safely back at GoodGym Westminster HQ.
Thank you all for coming and especially our newbies for pushing yourselves that extra mile with a 5 mile round trip.
