A dande(lion) job at those weeds!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.
- Saturday, 21st of April 2018
Living on her own and unable to use gardening tools for four years, Mrs S' lawn had fallen into some significant disrepair, with overgrown grass and weeds everywhere. Thankfully, the brief Saturday afternoon rainstorm was not enough to put off seasoned GoodGym runners Alex and Mel, who headed over after the group run earlier that morning!
After some initial searching, they found many good gardening tools in Mrs S' shed, including a lawnmower, a strimmer, a set of edge trimmers and a fork. Unfortunately, no extension cable could be found, so we were not able to reach much of the garden with the strimmer.
Despite this setback, Alex and Mel got started with what they could use. Most of the dandelions were uprooted with a fork as well as a mini-fork, and shallow grass on top of gravel and paving slabs were removed. Some general litter picking was also performed around the garden. All while this was happening, Mrs S offered us refills of squash and told us about her large family of 36 grandchildren!
Three hours and one full garden waste bin later, it was time for Alex and Mel to leave. But, we promised that GoodGym would return soon enough to give her lawn a mowing it deserves.
