A Chair Raising Experience
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.
- Monday, 30th of September 2019
It was great to accompany Elise on her first GoodGym mission, nay, her first GoodGym Good Deed this evening!
We had been asked if we could go and move some furniture out of Mr D’s flat, to make some space for a hospital bed to allow him to return home from hospital.
As it was a filthy wet night we donned some protective covers for our shoes to avoid trashing the nice clean carpet - these obviously don’t come in a size to comfortably cover my big clodhoppers!
Our first job was to try and negotiate our way from the lounge through a narrow hallway with a heavy recliner chair and immediately Elise took charge by removing the wheels from the chair to give us those all important extra few centimetres to allow us to twist and turn and move the chair along the hallway and out of the door without doing any damage.
So far so good until we got to the end of the stairway leading to the front door of the building and found our way impeded by the end of the bannister.
There was only one thing for it - we had to hoist the heavy chair up and over the bannister allowing us access through the front door and our to the garage.
Stopping to re-cover our shoes we then headed back into the flat to remove what we thought was a vintage table but turned out to be a vintage turntable and tape deck - luckily this was a much lighter and logistically easy task.
Job done and we very much hope that Mr D can come home soon.
