A bridge not too far

Run report and photos by Sarah
At 6.30pm seven runners were standing in the courtyard outside Somerset House - newish recruits Jill, Steve, Kate and India and long-timer GoodGymers Ian, Ed, and Sarah. Apparently the other sign-ups hadn't received the memo that running on a Friday night is what all of the cool kids are doing these days. There was no task this time, but Ed informed us that we would be running a 5k loop along the South Bank to Tower Bridge, across and back up the Embankment back to Somerset House. Wasn't that 7km though? Kate looked puzzled.
Keeping their cool, the runners warmed up quickly and then set off across Waterloo Bridge, chatting all the while.
It was as we passed the Globe Theatre that Sarah piped up - "so when is the first pub stop?" Apparently this was not the running pub crawl she was expecting.
The next alarming moment was when Ed turned up the steps to London Bridge. "Why are we going up?" asked India. It turned out that like a certain American oil tycoon Ed had got his bridges mixed up and that the turning point was in fact London Bridge. Cue sighs of relief all round.
The run back up along the Embankment was quieter than the South Bank. With a final push up the stairs to Waterloo Bridge, the runners all made it back in one piece, having run 5.4km.
Let's do it again next Friday, yeah?
